- On an ongoing basis, you pay from about €25 a month for Shopify itself, plus apps and payment fees. Realistically, expect €80 to €300 a month.
- As a one-off, a store costs anywhere from €0 (DIY) to €25,000 or more (agency with custom design). Most professional stores land between €5,000 and €15,000.
- The price depends less on design than on data, features and integrations. Clarify those up front and you get a fixed price instead of an open-ended bill.
Ongoing costs
Shopify's smallest full-featured plan costs €25 a month, billed annually. On top of that come payment fees per order and the apps you actually need.
| Plan | monthly | annual (per month) | Card payments with Shopify Payments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | €33 | €25 | 1.9% + €0.25 |
| Grow | €88 | €66 | 1.8% + €0.25 |
| Advanced | €384 | €289 | 1.6% + €0.25 |
| Plus | from approx. $2,300 | custom | custom |
All prices net, as of October 2026 (Shopify pricing, Qualimero overview). If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, a transaction fee of 2% (Basic) to 0.6% (Advanced) is added.
- Theme: free themes from Shopify or a premium theme as a one-time purchase, usually between $200 and $400.
- Apps: reviews, email marketing, legal texts, filters. Most stores need five to ten apps, often €50 to €200 a month combined.
- Domain: about €15 to €20 a year.
For most merchants, Basic or Grow is enough. Advanced only pays off once the lower card fee at high revenue outweighs the higher base price.
What a store costs up front
There are three ways to get a store. They differ less in what the design costs than in who carries the risk when something takes longer.
| Route | one-time cost | fits if | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIY | €0 – 500 plus your time | you're starting out, have few products and have time | your time is missing from selling |
| Freelancer | roughly €2,000 – 8,000 | the scope is small and clear | stalls if that one person is out |
| Agency at a fixed price | €4,990 – 24,990 | you need a custom design, migration or B2B | sits with the agency, not with you |
The agency range is our own price list. New stores with a custom design start at €4,990 with us; large projects with many templates, markets and integrations sit at the top end. Individual add-on features, such as a size advisor or a comparison table, cost €490 to €2,990 as a separate module.
Hourly billing is the most expensive route you don't see coming: every question and every change ends up on your invoice. A fixed price forces both sides to nail down the scope up front.
What drives the price
Five things decide where your store lands in that range. Design is rarely the biggest line item.
| Factor | cheaper | pricier |
|---|---|---|
| Page types | homepage, product, collection | plus landing pages, lookbooks, guides |
| Data | few products, well maintained | thousands of variants, data needs cleaning up |
| Features | what the theme includes | custom modules, configurators |
| Markets and languages | one country, one language | multiple countries, currencies, translations |
| Integrations | none | ERP, inventory management, B2B with wholesale prices |
A migration from another system is a separate line item. How much work it takes depends almost entirely on the quality of the old data. That's why we check it for free before every quote.
Where you can save and where you can't
Saving pays off on anything Shopify can already do. It gets expensive when you skimp on the foundation and have to fix things later.
Where you can save:
- Apps: Many stores pay for apps whose features Shopify now has built in. An app audit often saves hundreds a month and makes the store faster.
- Annual plan: Paying annually on Shopify is around 25% cheaper than paying monthly.
- Theme instead of building from scratch: A strong premium theme as the base, custom sections only where they set you apart from the competition.
Where you can't:
- Data and redirects during migration: Mistakes here cost rankings and revenue that take months to win back.
- Checkout and payment: This is where native Shopify features and proven apps belong, not DIY hacks.
- Load time: Every extra second costs conversions. Building it right from the start is cheaper than fixing it later.
FAQ
How much does a Shopify store cost per month? Shopify itself from €25 a month, billed annually, plus apps and payment fees. Most merchants pay €80 to €300 a month in total.
How much does it cost to have a Shopify store built? With a freelancer, roughly €2,000 to €8,000; with an agency and a custom design, usually €5,000 to €25,000. With us, you get a fixed price after the intro call.
Do I need Shopify Plus? Usually not. Plus only pays off at very high revenue or with special B2B requirements such as more than three price lists.
Why does a migration cost extra? Because data, customer accounts and redirects have to be moved over from the old system. A free data check shows how much work that is.
Are there hidden costs? Most commonly: apps that add up, and extra charges with hourly billing. Both can be cleared up in advance.
