In short

For us, Matrixify is a must on every migration to Shopify and for any large data change. With the app we move products, customers, company data, redirects and metafields into the store in a structured way, via spreadsheet. Its biggest strength for us is importing metafields. We keep using Matrixify after the migration too, for price and stock imports, for example.

Our verdict: Recommended

We use Matrixify in B2C and B2B stores, on practically every migration. So far our data has come from WooCommerce and Shopware. We moved everything except the orders: products with variants, customer accounts, company data for B2B, redirects and metafields.

Without the app, a lot would have to be created by hand or patched together with several specialist apps. With Matrixify it runs through one spreadsheet that you can check, correct and import again. No snags so far.

What Matrixify does better

• Metafields. Extra information such as materials, technical data or care instructions comes along cleanly. For us that's the main reason for the app.
• Almost everything in one app. Products, collections, customers, B2B companies, redirects, pages and blog posts all run through the same tool.
• Repeatable. An import can be corrected in the spreadsheet and run again. Recurring imports are possible too, for prices or stock, for example.

What to watch out for

• Pricing by data volume. The free version is only good for testing with a few records. The paid plans are based on the number of products, customers and orders per file.
• Clean up first. An import carries old mistakes along too. Duplicate products, wrong variants or empty fields are best cleaned up in the spreadsheet before the move.
• Test run first. We always import a small selection first and check it in the store before the full dataset follows.

When you don't need Matrixify

A new store with no legacy data doesn't need Matrixify. A handful of products is faster to create directly in the Shopify admin, and for simple product lists the CSV import Shopify ships with is enough. Can I migrate orders with Matrixify? Technically yes. In our projects we haven't moved orders so far, everything else we have.

Is Matrixify useful after the migration? Yes. We keep using the app for price and stock imports and for larger changes to the catalogue.

Are redirects carried over? Yes. We redirect old URLs to the new pages via import so no rankings are lost.
