A yacht charter company wanted guests to book their trip directly in the store instead of filling out an inquiry form. That’s a different business case than a contact form. Behind a booking there are calendars, seasonal prices, fixed start times, deposits and bookable extras. The client made a conscious choice for direct booking, and we built the store accordingly. The key insight: a bookable experience works more like an appointment than an item on a shelf.
The case
A physical product has a price and a stock level. A charter has a date, a time, a season and limited availability, and every one of those changes the price. On top of that come extras that can be booked and a deposit instead of the full amount. A normal product page with variants can’t handle that.
Inquiry or direct booking?
| Inquiry | Direct booking | |
|---|---|---|
| Effort in the store | Low: one form | High: calendar, prices, deposit, extras |
| Effort for the team | High: every inquiry answered manually | Low: the booking runs automatically |
| For the guest | Waiting for a reply | Booked and confirmed instantly |
| Fits when | every date is individual | offer and prices are clearly defined |
Both are legitimate. What matters is which model fits the business, not what’s technically easier.
What mattered in the build
- Booking logic via a specialized app that handles calendars, times and deposits, embedded in the brand’s design.
- Everything important visible before booking: what’s included, when it starts, how much the deposit is, what can be added.
- Extras where the decision is made, not only at checkout.
- The booking as the core of the page. Images and atmosphere lead to it instead of distracting from it.
Your takeaways
- An appointment isn’t an item. If you sell experiences or services, you need booking logic, not a product variant.
- Choose deliberately between inquiry and booking. One saves on tech, the other saves your team work.
- The more factors determine the price, the more important transparency before the click becomes.
- The booking is the product. It deserves the same care as your homepage design.
