Most stores don't need Plus. Since B2B now runs on the regular plans too, the list of reasons has gotten shorter. Plus pays off if you need to give every trade customer their own prices, run multiple stores for countries or brands, or want to customize the checkout. And if your revenue is high enough that the lower fees pay for the license.
What Plus costs
Plus is billed in US dollars and signed with a fixed term:
- Around $2,500 a month on a one-year term
- Around $2,300 a month on a three-year term
- At very high revenue it becomes revenue-based: a small percentage of revenue applies instead of the flat license
For comparison: Advanced costs €289 a month in Germany, billed annually. So it's a big jump. On the other side are lower card fees, which earn back a noticeable chunk of the license at high revenue.
Shopify sets the exact terms in the contract. We get them for you before you decide.
What only Plus can do
| Feature | What you need it for |
|---|---|
| Unlimited price lists, assignable per customer | Every trade customer gets their negotiated prices |
| Deposits and partial payments in B2B | Large orders, prepayment on part of it |
| Additional stores (expansion stores) | A separate store per country, brand or for trade customers |
| Customizable checkout | Extra fields, custom logic for shipping and payment |
| Custom logic via Shopify Functions | Discount, shipping or payment rules no app covers |
| Launchpad | Launch sales and campaigns automatically on a schedule |
| Higher API limits | Fast ERP and PIM integration for large catalogs |
| Lower card fees | Saves money at high revenue |
What Plus doesn't do: make your store faster, prettier or more successful. The theme, the apps and the frontend are the same as on the other plans.
Five questions that decide it
Answer them honestly. Two clear yeses and it's worth talking about Plus.
- Does each of your trade customers have their own prices? Not price tiers, but individually negotiated terms.
- Do you need more than one store? For countries with their own product range, for second brands or a separate wholesale store.
- Does the checkout need to do something it can't do today? Such as cost centers, delivery dates or payment methods by customer group.
- Is an ERP with many thousands of items connected? And do prices and stock levels need to sync several times a day?
- Is your online revenue well into seven figures? Then the lower fees often pay for themselves.
All noes? Then put the money into conversion, content or marketing instead. It'll go further there.
When we advise against Plus
We're a Shopify Partner and Plus projects pay well for us. We still often advise against it:
- “We want to look more professional.” Customers can't see which plan you're on.
- “We need B2B.” Since April 2026, B2B works without Plus too. Check first whether three price lists are enough.
- “The store is too slow.” Speed depends on theme, images and apps, not the plan.
- “We'll be growing soon.” Then switch when the time comes. Upgrading doesn't require a rebuild.
A plan is a tool, not a status symbol. If Advanced does everything you need, stick with it and put the money into revenue.
FAQ
Can I switch to Plus later? Yes, anytime. The store stays as it is. Products, customers, theme and apps don't move; only the contract changes.
Is there a Plus trial? Not a trial in the classic sense. Plus is arranged directly with Shopify. We work out with you beforehand whether it pays off.
Do I need an agency for Plus? No, but the features you buy Plus for need to be set up: checkout, price lists, additional stores, integrations. Without implementation, you're paying for features you don't use.
Is Plus required for B2B? Not anymore. With up to three price lists, B2B works on every plan. More on that in our article on B2B without Plus.
