A beverage maker wanted a Shopify store for its overseas market that would mainly serve trade customers. The obvious idea would have been to build a classic brand store with video, merchandise and product carousels and hide the prices behind a login. We did the opposite: the store was designed for trade customers from day one. Less showmanship, faster answers to the questions a buyer actually has.
The case
The bulk of revenue didn’t come from consumers but from trade customers ordering by the pallet. A trade buyer doesn’t come to the site to get inspired. They want to know: what’s available, in what unit, how do I get the goods, and who do I talk to if I want more. A homepage that leads with a lifestyle video pushes exactly those answers down the page.
What we built differently
- The brand in one sentence, then straight to the goods. Who the maker is stays visible. But the available products sit right below.
- Unit and ordering logic first. Pallet, pickup or delivery, minimum order quantity: this information sits where the buying decision is made, not in the shipping terms.
- One clear contact route for wholesale. Anyone who wants to order more or discuss terms finds the right contact without searching.
- A footer for trade customers. Wholesale info, pickup and contact instead of social media links and voucher notices.
- Lifestyle deliberately later. Merchandise and brand storytelling were put on hold for the launch. They can be added once the ordering routes are running.
Your takeaways
- Your buyers decide the homepage, not the theme. A theme gives you building blocks. Your audience decides which ones go at the top.
- A B2B buyer needs facts before the first click. Availability, unit, delivery route and contact. Everything else comes second.
- Lean doesn’t mean brandless. In wholesale, a clear, calm site looks more professional than a show made for consumers.
- Ordering route first, extras later. Whatever else the brand wants to show can be added later. An unclear ordering route, on the other hand, costs you orders from day one.
Is B2B your most important revenue channel? Then your store should look like it. We build it for the people who buy from you.
